Curve Finance App Fraud: Community Warned of Fake App on App Store

A fraudulent version of the Curve Finance app has infiltrated Apple’s App Store, misleading users worldwide and rapidly climbing to the top 100 finance app downloads as of Oct. 26. Despite warnings from vigilant community members, this counterfeit app—labeled "Curve defi v3" and developed by "Tao Duong Van"—continues to gain traction, risking the security of unsuspecting users in regions such as Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, the United States, and Southeast Asia.

Counterfeit Curve App Deceives Users

The fake app mirrors the legitimate Curve Finance logo and claims to offer token swaps, liquidity staking, and other DeFi services. However, user reviews tell a different story, with many reporting it as a crypto scam, highlighting concerns over data security and potential fund theft.

  • App Store Rank: Reached top 100 finance apps on Oct. 26

  • Regions Affected: Europe, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, U.S., and Latin America

  • Developer: Listed as "Tao Duong Van," differing from official Curve Finance developers

The app's description is notably misleading, encouraging users to “arrange blocks to make a perfect row” in a mismatched game-like reference. In reality, the app’s functionality closely resembles Curve Finance’s legitimate DeFi services, making it challenging for casual users to discern authenticity at a glance.

The fraudulent app also displays an image falsely claiming “over 30 million global users,” attempting to legitimize its credibility. Community members, including fintech engineer and app fraud monitor Babu, raised initial alerts on social media, urging users to report and avoid downloading the app. Curve Finance’s official team quickly echoed these warnings, advising users to stick to verified sources for app downloads.

Recurring Scams and Growing Security Concerns

Scammers have repeatedly targeted Curve Finance’s user base through fraudulent apps on app stores. Earlier this year, a counterfeit app under the developer name "MK Technology" posed as Curve Finance, sparking concern despite warnings. These scams, increasingly sophisticated as DeFi grows, highlight the need for enhanced security on app platforms and heightened user awareness.

Curve Finance and security experts urge users to download apps only from official sources, verify developer names, and avoid apps with poor reviews. This incident emphasizes the critical need for better app store vetting and user education, as digital finance attracts more vulnerable users.
