Even After a 3X Hike in ETH Transactions, Bitcoins Tops the Popularity Charts in 2022

According to the latest data released by Ycharts and NASDAQ, 

Ethereum has overtaken Bitcoin to become the busiest blockchain network in the world with the total number of transactions crossing 408.5 million. 

This number is approximately four times more than 93.1 million transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain network.  However, Bitcoin is still the epicenter of cryptocurrencies, ranking way ahead of ETH in terms of popularity. 

As per the reports from a leading blockchain media house, Ethereum blockchain does not rank even second on their crypto popularity index as Bitcoin, Shiba INU, and Dogecoin are leading the space with millions of searches every week. Apart from that, Bitcoin transactions were steadier and more periodic than that of Ethereum which spiked over certain incidents including NFT releases and XEN minting. 

However, this data is of only ETH mainnet and none of the layer-2 solutions were included, which accounts to almost equal transaction traffic on the blockchain. Bitcoin does not stand by the side of Ethereum if we include all layer-2 solutions, but it is also true that Bitcoin is far more reachable to common users than Ethereum. 

Why Bitcoin Is So Popular

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency to come into existence and enjoys a huge community of users. Bitcoin is purely transactional in nature and its universality has become the major reason for its global adoption. Bitcoin is even a legal tender in countries like El Salvador and the Central African Republic which is introducing it to the masses on a large scale. 

We have Bitcoin ATMs, brands accepting Bitcoin payments, and Bitcoin-centric crypto regulations in many countries. All of this leads to people finding out the true meaning of Bitcoin, making it the most searched cryptocurrency on Google.
