Worldcoin News: World Unveils New Ethereum L2 Blockchain, World Chain

World, formerly known as Worldcoin, has unveiled its new Ethereum layer 2 blockchain named World Chain, aiming to enhance efficiency and introduce innovative functionality for its Worldcoin (WLD) token users. Founded by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, World is set to give priority access to block space and free gas allowances to its 15 million verified users.

World Chain: Prioritizing Verified Human Users

World Chain's core focus is to ensure verified human users, those who have obtained a World ID through iris scans, receive privileged access over bots. This human-centric approach fosters a more secure and efficient blockchain environment.

  • Verified Users: 15 million users verified by iris scans can now use the network.

  • Priority Access: Verified humans receive priority access to block space and free gas allowances.

  • Efficient Onboarding: The blockchain aims to streamline onboarding for new users of the WLD token.

World Chain will feature integration with several leading applications and projects to provide comprehensive services to its users. These include Optimism for seamless interoperability, Uniswap for facilitating asset swaps, Zerion for offering real-time APIs, and Alchemy for supporting development. This collaboration ensures a robust and versatile platform, enhancing user experience and functionality.

World Unveils Enhanced Orb Device and Universal Basic Income Model

World has launched a new version of its "Orb" device in conjunction with the World Chain, significantly enhancing its biometric verification process. The new Orb, powered by Nvidia hardware, is five times more powerful, more efficient, and has a smaller footprint with fewer parts compared to its predecessor.

Additionally, World has partnered with social media apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom for identity verification. Aimed at addressing identity issues emerging from AI developments, World promotes a universal basic income model through its WLD token. Since its launch from beta in July 2023, the project has engaged over 6.9 million users in iris scans. Collaborations with delivery service Rappi in Latin America and retail locations are expanding orb access.

Despite these advancements, the WLD token's price declined by 1.4% on the announcement day and currently standing at $2.20. Led by Tools for Humanity in San Francisco and Erlangen, Germany, World is dedicated to creating a secure digital identity system to differentiate humans from AI, ensuring privacy and efficiency in the digital age.
