Vitalik Buterin Sells Memecoins, Donates $916K to Charity

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin sold over $940,000 worth of gifted meme coins, including NEIRO, ESTEE, and MARVIN, converting them to USDC. He donated $916,000 to his biotechnology charity Kanro, aimed at addressing pandemic-related challenges. NEIRO’s price fell 3% after the $74,000 liquidation, while ESTEE and MARVIN surged 28.66% and 14.50%, respectively. Buterin has repeatedly urged projects to donate tokens directly to charities rather than sending them to him. Ethereum traded at $3,662.51, up 0.55%.

Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs Record Massive Inflows

On January 6, Ethereum spot ETFs saw $128.72M in net inflows, with BlackRock ETHA contributing $124.11M, raising total assets to $13.47B (3.03% of Ethereum’s market cap). Bitcoin spot ETFs surged with $987.06M in inflows, led by Fidelity FBTC ($370.24M). Total Bitcoin ETF assets reached $116.67B (5.77% of Bitcoin’s market cap). Strong inflows and trading activity highlight rising investor interest in spot ETFs, showcasing their pivotal role in crypto investments' growth and accessibility. At the time of writing, BTC was trading at $101,740.34, whereas, ETH was hovering at $3,662.51.

Bitcoin crossed $100,000 in 2025, peaking at $101,192, driven by market optimism after Federal Reserve policy shifts and Donald Trump’s proposed Bitcoin reserve. Institutional demand surged, with MicroStrategy and others adding to Bitcoin holdings, and $908M flowed into spot ETFs. Analysts forecast tactical trading amidst continued volatility. Metaplanet Inc. plans to grow its Bitcoin treasury by 470%. Trump’s January inauguration and Fed’s stance on inflation could heavily influence Bitcoin’s trajectory in the coming weeks.

Tether's $1B USDT Chain Swap to Tron Blockchain

Tether announced a $1 billion USDT chain swap to Tron network, aiming to optimize liquidity across supported blockchains without altering USDT’s total supply. The swap involves transferring USDT from cold wallets, enhancing inter-chain asset utilization. Tether also revealed increased Bitcoin reserves, now holding 82,983 BTC valued at $7.68 billion. USDT remains the top stablecoin with a $137.5 billion market cap, outperforming USDC in trading volume and adoption, with Tron being a key platform for USDT transactions.
