Snoop Dogg Son Awards $50K to 5 Bahamas Students in NFT Competition

Five talented students from the University of The Bahamas have each won $10,000 in a groundbreaking NFT competition for their digital music and art creations.

The competition was part of the university’s NFT Digital Arts Project, which is sponsored by Cordell Broadus, the son of rapper Snoop Dogg, and backed by the Tezos Foundation.

The winners were announced on October 7, 2024, with students recognized for their innovative contributions in both the visual arts and music categories.

What's The News

Three students took home awards for their creations in the Visual Art category, while two others were recognized for their exceptional work in the Music category. Each winner was awarded a prize of $10,000, marking a significant boost for the university's emerging digital artists and musicians.

The project is funded by the Champ Medici Arts Fund (CMAF) Scholarship Award, a $1 million philanthropic initiative launched by Cordell Broadus in partnership with the Tezos Foundation. The NFT competition, announced earlier this year in March 2024, started with an initial $100,000 donation.

This collaboration with the University of The Bahamas is part of a larger mission by the CMAF and Tezos Foundation to support young artists and musicians globally, providing them with opportunities to create and showcase their work on the Tezos blockchain.

Through this partnership, students are not only being financially supported but are also learning how to use blockchain technology to mint, market, and sell their NFTs. The program aims to offer educational tutorials, resources, and tools to help students succeed in the digital art and music space.

One student from the Music category shared their experience with Bahamas’ Eyewitness News, explaining how the competition helped them learn more about the potential of NFT technology and its future impact on the arts.

Conclusion

The NFT competition is just the beginning of the ongoing partnership between the CMAF and the Tezos Foundation with the University of The Bahamas. In addition to awarding the students, the initiative will continue to provide support through educational guidance, materials, and technology.

The ultimate goal is to help students enhance their skills and further explore the possibilities within the NFT world. With Tezos’ upgraded blockchain ecosystem, “Tezos X”, launched in 2024, the platform offers even greater performance and flexibility, making it a promising foundation for these students' creative futures.
