on the Metaverse to develop a strategy for the emerging sector
The French government is seeking public input on the Metaverse, also known as the "virtual immersive universe," to develop a French strategy for this emerging sector and provide an alternative to international giants.
The Directorate General for Enterprise has issued a consultation, inviting companies, citizens, associations, and researchers to answer questions about virtual spaces.
Citizens are asked about their experience with technologies like mixed reality, blockchain, and 3D creation software, as well as their concerns and intentions for engaging in virtual immersive activities in the future.
Businesses are questioned about obstacles that could hinder the progress of French companies in building metaverses, and their expectations for demand from professionals and the general public. They are also asked about their vision of what the immersive worlds of the future will be based on.
This consultation follows a panel discussion at Paris Blockchain Week where industry professionals discussed how regulators might interpret activities in the Metaverse and how businesses can enter this virtual space. Julie Jacob, a lawyer and founder of the law firm Jacob Avocats, highlighted the opportunity to create a set of rules and ethical standards for the Metaverse, as there is currently no standard in place.
Overall, the French government's consultation seeks to gather public opinions on Metaverse user experiences, concerns, and potential obstacles for local firms. It aims to shape a French strategy for the development of the Metaverse and provide an alternative to international players in this emerging sector.
