OKX, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchange in terms of trading volume, has introduced a new free-to-play game called OKX Racer on the Telegram mini-app platform. This innovative game allows players to guess Bitcoin's price movements in just five-seconds, making it a first major centralized crypto exchange to join the growing trend of Telegram mini-apps.
Telegram, with its massive user base of over 900 million, has become a popular hub for various tap-to-earn games like Hamster Kombat, Notcoin, and Yescoin, which enable users to earn cryptocurrency through the TON blockchain.
OKX Racer follows a similar model, offering a straightforward and engaging game where players predict whether Bitcoin’s price will rise or fall in the next five seconds. Correct guesses earn players points, and consecutive wins come with multipliers that significantly boost their points. Players can also invite friends to earn referral rewards and use points for in-game upgrades.
Jason Lau, OKX’s Chief Innovation Officer, highlighted the importance of engaging the crypto community through accessible and interoperable platforms like Telegram. "Telegram's mini-app platform is rapidly emerging as a prime destination for engaging the crypto community. At OKX, our goal is to leverage user-friendly, interoperable, and accessible platforms that foster community building, incentivize active participation, and promote enjoyable experiences.," Lau said.
While OKX did not specify any immediate incentive model for OKX Racer, it is expected that the game will thrive on the anticipation of future airdrops. Similar games have seen success with this model; for instance, Notcoin airdropped over 80 billion TON-based tokens to its players in May. Players of OKX Racer might similarly hope for game-related tokens launched on TON as a reward for their participation.
The introduction of OKX Racer aligns with a broader trend of integrating blockchain technology with popular social platforms. Last week, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced plans to expand its blockchain initiatives by introducing a mini-app store and an in-app browser with Web3 support. "2024 will go down in history as the year when hundreds of millions of people became familiar with blockchain.
The launch of OKX Racer on Telegram's mini-app platform marks a significant step in integrating blockchain technology with popular social platforms. By allowing users to predict Bitcoin's price movements in a fun and engaging way, OKX is tapping into Telegram's vast user base and the growing trend of tap-to-earn games. This initiative not only enhances community engagement but also sets the stage for potential future rewards through airdrops.
