Influencer Logan Paul has taken legal action against YouTuber Stephen Findeisen, known as Coffeezilla, by filing a defamation lawsuit on June 27.
The lawsuit, submitted in a San Antonio, Texas District Court, accuses Findeisen of "maliciously and repeatedly" making false statements regarding Paul's controversial CryptoZoo NFT project.
CryptoZoo, which started in 2021, was aimed to be a blockchain game in which players could purchase NFT “eggs” that would hatch into animals.
These animals could then be bred to produce new hybrids, which could be used to make more tokens based on their scarcity. However, the project received major criticism because of its lack of the promised features, which led to it being called a scam.
In late 2022, Coffeezilla published a series of videos on YouTube in which he accused Paul of fraud and called CryptoZoo “Logan Paul’s biggest scam. ” These videos claimed that Paul had stolen the money from the holders of NFTs without implementing the project’s features.
In his lawsuit, Paul has accused these individuals of making these claims as false and as having negatively impacted his reputation.
Paul claims that Coffeezilla did not inform him of important details in his videos, and Paul proved his commitment to the project. The case states that Paul was deceived by his close advisors, Ibanez and Greenbaum who were portrayed as con artists who had their own selfish motives.
Logan Paul also states that Coffeezilla’s videos were fake and his only goal was to get more views and subscribers at his expense.
Paul also notes that after the release of his CryptoZoo videos, Coffeezilla created a subscription-based Patreon account, which indicates that the YouTuber sought to make money on the conflict.
The text messages between Paul and his team involve Paul stressing his dedication to the project and his anger at Ibanez and Greenbaum for misleading him. Paul continues to deny that he had any intention of conning anyone and puts the blame for the failure of the project squarely on the deceitful advisers.
Logan Paul has filed a claim of more than seventy-five thousand dollars, interest, cost, and any further orders deemed right by the court. His main objective is to clear his name and reverse the effects of what he considers defamation by Coffeezilla’s channel.
Paul has sued Findeisen for defamation in a bid to ensure that the latter is shown to have made statements that were libelous and to ensure that he did not deceive his fans with his actions.
The legal battle where Logan Paul sued Coffeezilla is now considered to be one of the significant moments in the dispute around CryptoZoo. Paul further urged that the allegations were fabricated, malicious, and aimed at tarnishing his image and achieving the YouTuber’s parochial gains. From the case, one will be keenly observing how the court interprets the evidence given by both sides and if indeed Paul will be cleared through the legal process.
