OpenAI Silent After X Account Hack Promotes Fake $OPENAI Token

OpenAI's official press account on X, @OpenAINewsroom, was recently hacked, leading to the promotion of a cryptocurrency scam involving a fake token called "$OPENAI."

The incident, which occurred yesterday evening, has raised concerns about the security of social media accounts and the impact of fraudulent activities in the tech space.

With over 54,000 followers, the compromised account shared a now-deleted post promoting the scam and misled users into believing they were eligible to claim part of the token's initial supply.

OpenAI Press Account on X Hacked

The breach of OpenAI’s press account on X was used to circulate a fraudulent cryptocurrency campaign. The hackers posted an announcement claiming the launch of a new token named $OPENAI.

According to the misleading post, users who hold $OPENAI would not only receive an airdrop but also gain exclusive access to future OpenAI beta programs. This post, designed to lure followers into the scam, was quickly taken down, but the damage had already begun as curious users may have clicked on the link provided.

What’s the Scam?

The scammers went beyond simply posting a fake announcement. They created a counterfeit version of OpenAI's official website, complete with a link to claim the $OPENAI token.

Users who clicked the link were directed to a page that mimicked OpenAI’s design but asked them to connect their cryptocurrency wallets.

By doing so, users were exposed to potential financial risk, as connecting wallets to untrusted sites can lead to the loss of funds or personal information.

The fake website was not hosted on OpenAI’s actual domain, making it clear that the token and promotion were entirely fraudulent.

Why OpenAI Silent on the Issue?

As of now, neither OpenAI nor X (formerly Twitter) have issued any statements regarding the breach, frames a suspiciousness about the scam.

OpenAI’s press account, which had only been active since earlier this month, remains silent about the hacking incident.

This lack of communication has left followers and the wider tech community wondering about the cause of the security lapse and what actions are being taken to prevent future hacks.

Final Thoughts

The increasing trend of technology leads us to progressive destruction because as we are moving to higher security the chances for scam also match the same level. We have recently gone through many scams where hackers break the high security system of  WazirX, BingX, Google Ads and other X Accounts.

Such scams ruin the trust of crypto investors and enthusiasts on the cryptocurrency market. That’s why it is crucial to take strict action to maintain the good of Cryptocurrency.
