Eigen Labs, the team behind EigenLayer, has announced a significant update to its restaking protocol, aimed at improving the user experience and boosting rewards for restakers. According to a blog post on September 4, this upgrade focuses on making the process of native Ether (ETH) restaking on EigenLayer more efficient and rewarding.
By enhancing the performance of its EigenPods, which are smart contracts for Ether staked on Ethereum’s Beacon Chain, the update allows users greater flexibility in how they manage and reinvest their staking rewards.
This new functionality simplifies the restaking process, making it easier for users to grow their holdings without manual intervention. Additionally, Eigen Labs has improved the user interface to make it more intuitive, further enhancing the overall user experience.
EigenLayer currently holds around $11.5 billion in total value locked (TVL), with restaked ETH securing a variety of protocols, known as "actively validated services" (AVS). These services rely on the security provided by the staked ETH.
Some of the largest AVSs on EigenLayer include EigenDA, Lagrange State Committees, and ARPA Network. EigenDA, in particular, is the largest AVS, secured by over 3.5 million restaked ETH from more than 123,000 retakers.
In August, EigenDA extended support for native token restaking for layer-2 scaling networks, making it possible for teams to restake their ERC-20 tokens to secure stronger security for rollups and offer additional yield opportunities for token holders.
