Friend.tech, a decentralised social media platform which was launched in beta version on August 11. It has performed well since its launch, due to which it continues to be in the headlines. But currently, due to increasing scams in Crypto, Friend.tech platform is facing a lot of problems. Actually, Friend.tech was recently a victim of SIM-Swap attack. Due to the SIM-Swap attack, 4 users of this platform had to face a loss of approximately $178,000. Information about the SIM-Swap attack on Friend.tech was shared by a user named Froggie.eth on September 30. Froggie.eth had reported that the scammer had withdrawn 20 ETH from his account by gaining control of his mobile number. On October 3, two more users had to face the same problem and after this many more users had also issued warnings about similar scams.
Friend.tech is now making several efforts to stop the spate of attacks like SIM-Swap. Recently the team behind Friend.tech has added a new security feature to prevent SIM-Swap attacks targeting its users. On October 9, Friend.tech reported that if there is a disruption to your cell carrier and e-mail service, you can add a 2FA password to your Friend.tech account for additional security. Additionally, if you login to your Friend.tech account on a new device, you will be prompted to enter your password. Friend.tech claims that neither Friend.tech nor Privy Teams can reset these passwords, so take special care when resetting any password.
According to the information received, the new update brought by Friend.tech has been done due to SIM-Swap attacks happening on its platforms. Friend.tech says that our aim is to make our platform more secure, so that it can be easier to face such attacks. Because the trend of scams in Crypto is not going to stop here, it is very important to prevent such scams from increasing on our platform. Therefore we have updated a feature like 2FA in the platform. Now it remains to be seen how much security this new update of Friend.tech, which is constantly facing attacks like SIM-Swap, provides.
