Synthetix is a protocol for decentralised finance (DeFi) that lets you trade a wide range of crypto and non-crypto assets on-chain. The protocol is based on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain and gives users access to synthetic assets that are very liquid (synths). Synths track the returns of the asset they are based on without the need to hold the asset directly.

The platform wants to make the cryptocurrency space bigger by adding assets that aren't on the blockchain. This will give people access to a stronger financial market.

Kain Warwick started the network in September 2017 and called it Havven (HAV). After about a year, the company changed its name to Synthetix.

Kain Warwick started Synthetix and is a non-executive director at the blueshyft retail network. Warwick worked on a number of other cryptocurrency projects before he started Synthetix. He also started Pouncer, which is an Australian-only site for live auctions.

The project's CEO, Peter McKean, has been making software for more than 20 years. He used to work at ICL Fujitsu as a programmer.

Jordan Momtazi is the COO of Synthetix. He is a business strategist, market analyst, and sales leader with years of experience in blockchain, cryptocurrency, digital payments, and e-commerce systems.

The Chief Technology Officer, Justin J. Moses, used to be the director of engineering at MongoDB and the deputy practice head of engineering at Lab49. He also helped start Pouncer.
