One of the two native tokens on the Theta blockchain, TFUEL stands for Theta Fuel. Theta Token (THETA), which is the management token of the Theta blockchain and is supported by thousands of community-run Guardian nodes and Enterprise validators like Google, Binance, Blockchain ventures, Gumi, and Samsung, is not to be confused with TFUEL. TFUEL is the second token on the Theta blockchain. It is the utility token for decentralised video and data delivery, and it is also a gas token. This means that it is used to power all operations on the Theta blockchain, such as payments to relayers for sharing a video stream, for deploying and interacting with smart contracts, and as fees for trading NTFs and DeFi applications. It is also used to give people in the ecosystem an incentive to share their extra computing power and bandwidth as Edge Compute nodes and Edge Caching nodes for video streams and other data. Mitch Liu and Jieyi Long started Theta Fuel and, by extension, the whole Theta Ecosystem in 2017. Liu has been in the gaming, video, and virtual reality industries for a long time. He co-founded the video advertising company Tapjoy, the mobile social gaming startup Gameview Studios, and THETA.tv, the first DApp built on the Theta protocol.
