BENQI is a decentralised, non-custodial liquidity market and a liquid staking protocol built on the fast Avalanche smart contract network. The lending protocol lets people use their digital assets to lend, borrow, or earn interest. The Liquid Staking protocol solves the problem of wasted capital by letting users "unlock" their "staked" AVAX so that they can be used on Decentralized Financial protocols. The team that started Avalanche chose it because its decentralised network was said to be able to grow quickly, have low fees, and work with popular plugin wallets. BENQI was started in 2021, and it was backed by $6 million at the time. Ascensive Assets, Dragonfly Capital, Mechanism Capital, Arrington XRP Capital, Spartan Group, TRGC, Woodstock Fund, Ava Labs, Morningstar Ventures, GBV Capital, Skynet Trading Ltd, Rarestone Capital, Genblock Capital, Moon Inc., and Woodstock Fund are some of the strategic investors in the company. The company Rome Blockchain Labs Inc. is in charge of making BENQI. It is a business incubator and a software company that focuses on decentralised finance (DeFi). Rome Blockchain Labs was started by JD Gagnon, who is also the CEO. Hannu Kuusi and Alex Shul are the other two co-founders.
