Of phishing emails were sent to the users impersonating Metamask and DHL.

NameCheap is a hosting services provider and its CEO Richard Kirkendall confirmed that their account was compromised and they have already closed their account with SendGrid, an email platform used by NameCheap.

Metamask, the world’s most popular crypto wallet, tweeted about the phishing attacks on its users. Metamask informed its community that it never asks for any Know Your Customer (KYC) details from its users and any mail from the NameCheap impersonating Metamask must be ignored and reported.

Metamask asked its users to never enter their private keys on any website EVER and not click on any links from such emails. Losing your private keys can lead to a complete loss of access to your Metamask wallet and thus securing the private keys is mandatory for all crypto wallet holders.

As per the reports shared by NameCheap, the upstream system they use for sending emails has been exploited to send phishing emails by hackers and stopped immediately afterward. However, none of NameCheap’s systems were breached and all of its users’ data is 100 percent secure.

The phishing emails sent by hackers asked the users to fill in their KYC details otherwise their Metamask account will be suspended. However, it must be noted that none of the KYC verification will ever ask you about your private keys.

"By completing KYC verification, you will be able to securely store, withdraw, and transfer funds without any interruptions. It also helps us to protect you against financial fraud and other security threats." said the mail.

KYC verification only requires you to prove your identity by sharing your government ID cards and photo/video. The users must ensure that they are on the right web address by verifying the domain name.

Why Cyber Attacks Are Increasing on Cryptocurrencies?

In the past several years, a steep rise is being witnessed in the number of cyber attacks on cryptocurrencies. Most of these attacks are targeted at the crypto exchange and wallet services as they deal in high volumes of cryptocurrencies. As per the reports of the Cyber Security Hub, crypto companies are more vulnerable to cyber attacks as most of their transitions are financials and create an opportunity for hackers to leverage any minor exploit to get direct access to their funds. Apart from that, cryptocurrency transactions cannot be reserved and that makes it a perfect target for hackers.
