Kaspa is a cryptocurrency that uses the GHOSTDAG protocol and is based on "proof of work." GHOSTDAG is different from other blockchains because it doesn't throw away blocks that were made at the same time. Instead, it lets them coexist and puts them in order based on a consensus. A blockDAG is what the Kaspa blockchain is. This generalisation of Nakamoto's consensus makes it possible to keep operations safe while keeping very high block rates (currently one block per second, aiming for 10/sec, and dreaming of 100/sec) and very short confirmation times, which are mostly determined by how slow the internet is. The Kaspa implementation has a lot of cool features, like Reachability, which lets you ask about the topology of the DAG, Block data pruning (with plans for block header pruning in the near future), SPV proofs, and later subnetwork support, which will make it much easier to implement layer 2 solutions in the future. Kaspa is unique in that it can handle high block rates while keeping the level of security that proof-of-work environments provide. The current speed of Kaspa's main net is 1 block per second. Core developers and researchers will work in the future to push the limits of what can be done—think 10 or 100 blocks per second.
