The popular mobile game Flappy Bird might be making a comeback, but its original creator, Dong Nguyen, is not involved. A group has claimed the rights to the game and plans to re-launch it, hinting at potential cryptocurrency integration.
Flappy Bird, a simple yet highly addictive mobile game, took the world by storm in 2013. Players guided a small bird through gaps between pipes by tapping their phone screens.
Its viral success earned Nguyen $50,000 per day at its peak, but he abruptly removed the game in early 2014, citing the stress and guilt of creating such an addictive product.
Recently, a group called "The Flappy Bird Foundation" announced plans to re-launch the game, claiming to have acquired the legal rights. This has sparked excitement among fans, but there are hints that this revival might be more than just a nostalgic reboot. Hidden web pages suggest it could incorporate cryptocurrency features, raising questions about the game's true intentions.
Dong Nguyen, the original creator, has made it clear that he is not connected to this new release.
In his first post on X (formerly Twitter) since 2017, Nguyen responded directly to the claims made by The Flappy Bird Foundation, saying, "I did not sell anything." He emphasized that he has no involvement with the game's comeback and added, "I also don’t support crypto."

Nguyen's statement has shed light on the questionable nature of the new group's claims, making it clear that the upcoming Flappy Bird project is entirely separate from the original game.
The Flappy Bird revival seems to be aiming for something much bigger than a simple re-release. Hidden pages on the group’s website indicate that they are working on a crypto-based model.
There are hints that the new game could include features like a "play-to-earn" system, a "stake to own" option, and even a $FLAP token on the Solana and TON blockchains.
There were also mentions of free airdrops and a "flap-to-earn event" on Telegram, similar to other crypto games that reward users for participation. The head of 1208 Production, Michael Roberts, who is leading the project, hinted that more details would be revealed soon.
While the re-release of Flappy Bird might appeal to fans of the original, it seems to be heading in a different direction with possible cryptocurrency involvement. With Dong Nguyen disowning the project and expressing his disapproval of crypto, the revival raises concerns. Many are left wondering whether this is a genuine attempt to bring back a beloved game or simply a way to cash in on its nostalgic appeal through crypto.
