Coinbase has expanded its services in Argentina after getting a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registration from the National Securities Commission (CNV).
Previously limited to crypto-to-crypto trading, Coinbase can now provide services in Argentine pesos, simplifying transactions within the law.
This comes as Argentina faces severe economic instability, with 53% of the population in poverty and inflation soaring. As a result, five million Argentinians use crypto daily, with 76% seeing it as a solution to financial challenges.
An October 2024 Chainalysis report found Argentina led Latin America in crypto inflows, surpassing Brazil with $91 billion in transactions, while its stablecoin market remains one of the world’s largest, reflecting growing reliance on digital assets amid economic turmoil.
Coinbase continues to expand its presence in countries with favorable regulations.
Canada, it launched in August 2023, integrating Interac e-Transfers for seamless transactions.
Bermuda, Coinbase obtained a license in April 2023, launching the Coinbase International Exchange in May 2023, allowing non-U.S. customers to trade Bitcoin and Ethereum futures.
Australia, the crypto exchange promoted crypto adoption by sponsoring the Melbourne Marathon, offering digital trophies and Bitcoin incentives.
These expansions highlight Coinbase’s commitment to strengthening its global footprint and making crypto more accessible.
Cryptocurrency adoption has big impact on economies, businesses, and society. It encourages financial inclusion, facilitates quicker, less expensive cross-border transactions, and acts as a hedge against inflation in nations like Venezuela and Argentina.
It creates Decentralized Finance (DeFi), encourages investment and innovation in business, and acts as regulatory problems to governments.
Socially, it improves security and transparency, generates new employment opportunities, and uses smart contracts to expedite transactions. Crypto continues to transform global technology and finance as its use increases. Apart from this, the Coinbase exchange have frozen services in many regions like Turkey due to its financial regulator update.
