Theta (THETA) is a blockchain-based network meant mainly for video streaming. Theta mainnet, which was launched in March 2019, is a decentralised network in which users exchange bandwidth and processing resources peer-to-peer (P2P). Theta has its own native cryptocurrency token, THETA, which fulfills multiple governance responsibilities inside the network. Mitch Liu and Jieyi Long established Theta in 2018.Liu has extensive experience in the video and gaming industries. He co-founded the live streaming network THETA.tv, the first DApp to be developed on the Theta protocol, along with the mobile social gaming company Gameview Studios and the video advertising business Tapjoy.

Long is Theta's second co-founder and CTO, with a background in design automation, gaming, virtual reality, and large scale distributed systems. He has published several peer-reviewed scholarly articles and owns several patents in the fields of video streaming, blockchain, and virtual reality.
